SMS Communication

 

If you have a mobile phone, you'll certainly use text messages called SMS to send or receive messages. Do you know what SMS stands for? Short Messaging Service.

 

To create and modify an SMS message you have to use the message editor of your mobile phone: once edited, your message can be sent, stored or deleted.

 

Acronyms, emoticons and abbreviations are widely used in editing SMS messages, because they let you save on typing time.

 

An acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of other words, for example:

WWW World Wide Web
USA United States of America
BBC British Broadcasting Corporation
LCD Liquid Crystal Display, a monitor using liquid crystal technology
ICT Information and Communication Technology
UNO United Nations Organization.

 

An emoticon is a word composed of two words: "emotions" and "icons", that's to say "icons expressing emotions", a way of adding emotion to your text messages.

Here are 3 basic emoticons:

:-) "smile"
:-)) "very happy"
:-( "sad".
